✔️ How does Alice 6mg Tablet work?

Ivermectin works by binding to the muscle and nerve cells of worms causing paralysis of the parasite. Due to inactive function, the parasite dies and the infection is treated.

✔️ Indication of Alice 6mg Tablet

Onchocerciasis, also known as river blindness, is a parasitic worm infection transmitted through the bite of black flies. It is characterized by symptoms such as skin itching and vision impairment, and if left untreated, it can lead to partial or complete vision loss. Ivermectin is commonly used to treat onchocerciasis.

Strongyloidiasis is another parasitic infection caused by Strongyloides stercoralis or sometimes S. fülleborni. Symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and dehydration, and if left untreated, it can lead to complications such as anemia. Ivermectin is effective in treating strongyloidiasis.

Scabies is a skin infection caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei mite, resulting in tiny red rashes and intense itching. Ivermectin can also be used to treat scabies effectively.

In summary, Ivermectin is a broad-spectrum antiparasitic medication used to treat various parasitic infections, including onchocerciasis, strongyloidiasis, and scabies.

✔️ Pharmacology

Ivermectin selectively binds with high affinity to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels, which are present in nerve and muscle cells of invertebrates. This binding leads to an increase in the permeability of cell membranes to chloride ions, resulting in hyperpolarization of the nerve or muscle cell. Ultimately, this disrupts normal nerve and muscle function in the parasite, leading to its death.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Alice 6mg Tablet

For the treatment of strongyloidiasis with Alice 12 mg, the recommended dosage is a single oral dose designed to provide approximately 200 mcg/kg of body weight. The dosage guidelines are as follows:

• Body Weight (kg) 15-24: Dose 3 mg/kg
• Body Weight (kg) 25-35: Dose 6 mg/kg
• Body Weight (kg) 36-50: Dose 9 mg/kg
• Body Weight (kg) 51-65: Dose 12 mg/kg
• Body Weight (kg) 66-79: Dose 15 mg/kg
• Body Weight (kg) >80: Dose 200 mcg/kg

For the treatment of onchocerciasis with Alice 12 mg, the recommended dosage is a single oral dose designed to provide approximately 150 mcg of Alice 12 mg per kg of body weight. The dosage guidelines are as follows:

• Body Weight (kg) 15-25: Dose 3 mg/kg
• Body Weight (kg) 26-44: Dose 6 mg/kg
• Body Weight (kg) 45-64: Dose 9 mg/kg
• Body Weight (kg) 65-84: Dose 12 mg/kg
• Body Weight (kg) >85: Dose 150 mcg/kg

These doses should be taken on an empty stomach with water. Additional doses are generally not necessary, but follow-up stool examinations should be performed to verify eradication of the infection. For onchocerciasis, the most commonly used dose interval is 12 months, but retreatment may be considered at intervals as short as 3 months for individual patients.

✔️ Interaction

Before taking Alice 6mg Tablet, it's important to inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

1. Diethylcarbamazine citrate (DEC) - Used to treat lymphatic filariasis.
2. Warfarin - Used to prevent blood clots.

Additionally, regarding drug-food interactions, it's advised not to consume food two hours before or after taking Alice 6mg Tablet.

✔️ Contraindications

Alice 6 mg is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to any component of this product.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy Category C: Safety in pregnancy has not been established.
• Nursing Mothers: Alice 6 mg is excreted in human milk in low concentrations.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

It is not recommended to use Ivermectin for children with a body weight of less than 15 kg for scabies (a skin disorder). Additionally, it is not recommended for use in children below 5 years of age for Onchocerciasis (affects vision) and in children below 12 years of age for Strongyloidiasis (abdominal pain, low blood count caused by worms) due to insufficient safety and efficacy data available for use in these populations. Microfilaricidal drugs like Alice 6 mg may cause systemic reactions and ophthalmological reactions in patients with onchocerciasis. Patients with hyperreactive acrodermatitis may be more likely to experience severe adverse reactions.
